The University at Buffalo, School of Dental Medicine seeks an entrepreneurial Chair of the Department of Restorative Dentistry with a strong record of teaching, administrative experience, community service and scholarly activity.
The School of Dental Medicine is a vital component of the University at Buffalo which is a major public research university and member of the Association of American Universities. The School is part of the University’s Academic Health Center that includes the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, the School of Nursing, the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, and the School of Public Health and Health Related Professions.
The Chair is responsible for administration, innovation, and leadership in the Department of Restorative Dentistry, which is the largest of seven academic departments in the School of Dental Medicine. The Department provides education and training to pre-doctoral dental students in the disciplines of operative dentistry, fixed and removable prosthodontics and implant dentistry. It provides advanced education programs in General Dentistry and Prosthodontics as well as a new advanced education program in Implant Dentistry.
The Chair will be a departmental leader. She/he will be a member of the School’s senior leadership team. The Chair will work closely with the School’s administration to lead the development and implementation of innovative academic, patient care, and research programs. The incumbent will evaluate and guide the professional development of faculty and staff in the department; collaborate with faculty and staff throughout the University and affiliated hospitals; and participate in the clinical practice plan.
The Chair must be committed to recruiting and supporting a diverse faculty. They must foster and promote gender equity and ethnic diversity among the School’s students, faculty and staff.
The Chair should have a strong record of obtaining resources for programs and projects. The Chair must reach out to alumni and others to encourage engagement with the School and philanthropy. They must be committed to interprofessional education; possess through training and experience a deep understanding of basic sciences and clinical practice; have demonstrated the ability to work effectively and collegially with colleagues; and be able to lead change. The Chair must be well versed in current educational and clinical technology. The Chair will play a major role in the School’s planned curriculum revision.
